NYSED supports four different pathways to an HSE diploma. Taking the HSE exam is only one of those four options:

  • Take and pass the five subtests of the High School Equivalency exam
  • Working in the National External Diploma Program (a competency-based option that does not include the exam)
  • Regents HSE Exam (using passing Regents credits toward a diploma)
  • 24 College Credits

The provides detailed information about each of the four pathways.
